Gardens
At Griffith Property Services, we can install new gardens, reshape or redesign existing gardens.
Gardens Beds
New garden beds are composed of at least 8 - 12" of triple mix soil; which promotes a healthy and vigorous landscape., 3" of cedar mulch (upon customer request) and are finished with a good clean edge.
Once a new garden is installed it is important to follow a strict watering regiment to ensure that the plants become deeply rooted. Trees and shrubs should be watered at least twice a week for the first two months following planting. All other plants should be watered daily for the first week, every other day for the next two weeks, and then as required.

New plants will require more frequent watering than established plants. If plants are watered deeply during the first year, roots will penetrate deeper into the soil therefore becoming less susceptible to temperature and water fluctuations on the surface. As a result your garden will become vigorous and require less daily attention.
One way to keep watering under control and accurate without the added worry in your life is to install an irrigation system.
Believe it or not - not all plants require soil to grow. Growing mediums can range from soil, to bog, to even water! Marginal and submergible plants create interest around a pond or an area that remains wet in your garden.
"Xerophytic" garden But wait!... Why not go to the other extreme and create a "Xerophytic" garden. This style of garden hosts plants that thrive in hot dry conditions. So if it's low maintenance that you require, maybe this is the garden style for you.
Weeds
Unfortunately, every garden whether it is new or existing will acquire pesky weeds or pests. In early spring the garden should be turned over with a small cultivator rake. Doing so will disturb the seedlings and prevent weeds from rooting and spreading. Cultivating the garden soil throughout the growing season will help keep the weeds at bay. A good thick bed of mulch, 3" minimum, will also decrease the amount of weeds in addition to regulating soil temperature and water levels.
Pruning
Pruning is necessary to improve both the shape and health of plants. It also stimulates growth and can improve plant vigour. Pruning is very specific for certain plants so please feel free to contact our office for pruning advice.
